- FINNISH (1958)
The Finnish Cultural Garden at 1180 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. located between the Indian and Estonian gardens was dedicated in 1958.
It features a granite monument with a quote by author of prose and lyrics Aleksis Kivi. Also, there are busts of Jean Sibelius, noted composer of “Finlandia”,
Elias Lönnrot, doctor and author of the epic poem “Kalevala”,
Johan Vilhelm Snellman, statesman and patriot
and finally Johan Ludvig Runeberg, national poet and author of the Finnish National Anthem “Maame”.
The Finnish Heritage Museum located in Fairport Harbor, Ohio is the sponsor of the Finnish Garden. The maintenance of the Garden is done by volunteers throughout the year. There are costs associated with this maintenance including plantings, mulch, fertilizer etc. We want to establish a fund for the ongoing maintenance and eventual restoration of this lovely spot. We appeal to all of those with Finnish heritage and their friends to help us create the resources necessary to care for this unique area of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.
The year 2017 is the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Finland. Help us celebrate by participating in our fund raising efforts and please visit the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. They are unique in the world!
